Case Study 1 |

In 2008 the company provided a range of OH&S desk top audits for a number of property management groups. As a result of this relationship SHRM Australia was requested by a number of contract service providers to provide them with some information on their legal obligations under the OH&S Act 2004.
A common theme coming out of this process by contractors, was they did not understand it but unless they did something they would lose work and contracts.
SHRM recognised an opportunity and the need to support small and medium size business in the area of compliance management. A number of organisations were contacted and a survey was undertaken to determine whether an industry based seminar would assist contractors. After surveying a dozen contractor providers it was determined that issues such as.
1. Their knowledge of the law was limited 2. They did not understand their obligations of the law 3. They did not understand employees obligations 4. They were unsure of the processes required to be compliant 5. Little or nothing was in place currently
As a result the company developed a 4 hour industry based seminar that answered these questions and many more. The seminar was developed in a power point presentation with hand outs to the clients.
DVD’s, actual documents, safety plans, JSA and other compliance based material was used to assist the attendees.
The first 2 hours of the industry seminar was based on explaining to the owners and directors the relationship between the OH&S Act 2004, the OH&S Regulations 2007, the Accident Compensation Act 1985 and the supporting codes of practices.
The second 2 hours addressed the obligations of business and in turn the development of an OH&S safety plan with the necessary training, monitoring, policies and procedures to satisfy the law.
At the end of the seminar questions were answered and a number of packages and solutions were provided to the attendees to meet the compliance obligations.
From this process many of the attendees formed relationships with SHRM in the development of compliance based material. The company today holds on going seminars every month for new clients.

Case Study 2 |

As the SHRM business grew in the areas of compliance management the Directors saw the need to support their clients with an audit and compliance system that all stakeholders could access if required.
The genesis of this began in 2008/2009 when a number of clients were requesting updated information on previous audits, compliance training, work cover insurances and public liability insurance and an over all general status update on their compliance in OH&S, risk management and other industry related standards.
Traditionally the company had prepared audits in hard copy prepared the reports and developed a recommendation report and sent to through to the client. The onus was then on the client to forward it through to their customers and keep them updated. For many reasons this was not a successful administration process.
To over come this SHRM developed an on line audit verification site for each of its clients. This site is secured with a login and a password from which the site goes to a dedicated home page which briefs the reader on the company at hand.
The home page provides the reader with an updated picture on the company quality plan, it references the following information:
- Lost time injuries
- Number of accidents
- Locations of audits
- Style of audit (Safetymap or A/NZ 4801 or 1800)
- Audit criteria
- Brief report
- Down load certificates of compliance
- Download insurances
This web based system was rolled out 18 months ago with a great deal of success. The system allows our clients to access key compliance information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It provides them with a third party verification tool from an ISO accredited auditor for any interested parties that have access to the login and password.
There are a number of web based systems on the market currently which are all based on the user uploading documents. The problem with this type of system is that there is no accredited verification by an auditor of the documentation being truly genuine.
The SHRM web based system is based on an actual face to face audit it can be customised to meet the individual needs of the company’s diverse client base and with over 100 clients using the system it has supported organisations retaining work and in their business development activities.
